Aswan in all its glory– The image (photo taken from the Corniche-el-Nil)
epitomizes the best of Aswan - the grandeur of the Nile, the feluccas, the sand dunes along the riverbank, and Elephantine Island – home to an ancient Nubian village. Aswan lies in the heart of the Nile Valley and forms the northern frontier of Nubia – a region that extends all the way to Khartoum (Sudan).  high res The image is a snapshot of daily life on Sharia-Al-Souk (Aswan) – home to the world renowned Spice Bazaar. A closer look at the people in the photo reveals a mix of races. The Nubians (of lower Egypt) resemble the stereotypical African while the “Saiyidis” of upper Egypt bear a striking resemblance to the stereotypical middle-easterner.
